Historic Route 66
Oklahoma is home to the longest driveable stretch of Route 66 in the nation. This 400+ mile stretch of the historic Mother Road offers multiple outstanding museums about the road's history, more than 100 historic signs and numerous points of interest. Drive through charming community main streets and open prairie lands as you discover America's Highway, and stop at nostalgic icons such as the Coleman Theater, Will Rogers Memorial Museum, the Blue Whale, Tulsa's giant Golden Driller statue on the fairgrounds, the Round Barn of Arcadia, Pop's giant soda bottle, the Bridgeport Pony Bridge and more.
Explore the top-notch museums along the Route including Chandler's Route 66 Interpretive Center, the Oklahoma Route 66 Museum in Clinton and the National Route 66 Museum in Elk City. Drivers won't want to miss the Ribbon Road near Miami. To save money as portions of Route 66 were paved, the concrete was poured just 9-ft wide, creating the Ribbon Road. This original section of Route 66 is located south of Miami at the junction of E 140th Rd and S 555 Rd.
