Cabin Creek Battlefield
Cabin Creek Battlefield
Visit Cabin Creek Battlefield and stand in the same spot where two Civil War battles played out in Big Cabin. In both instances, Confederates raided Union supply wagon trains. The first battle, in 1863, left the Confederates supply-less, as they missed their chance to stop the wagon train crossing Cabin Creek. The second battle, in 1864, tied the score, as the Confederates managed to successfully capture mules, wagons and supplies from the Union troops.
While touring Cabin Creek Battlefield, pay respects to Confederate and Union soldiers memorialized on battle site monuments maintained by the Oklahoma Historical Society and Friends of the Cabin Creek. Read up on battle site history, provided by signs detailing these two Civil War battle stories. Every three years, catch a reenactment of the 1864 Confederate victory in Big Cabin.
