The bright yellow sign displays the words "Stay Gold," a reference to the line "Stay Gold, Ponyboy" that Tulsa readers and movie fans are familiar with thanks to "The Outsiders." Written in 1967 by Tulsa native S.E. Hinton, the novel has been a fixture of Tulsa culture since its release. The film adaptation of the book was shot around Tulsa and director Francis Ford Coppola featured several recognizable locations including the marque of the Circle Cinema.
