The Oklahoma Heritage Horse Sanctuary’s seeks to preserve the Colonial Spanish Horse - also known as Oklahoma’s Heritage Horse. Located in Rattan, the sanctuary is spread across the properties of seven individuals, which allows the horses live in as natural a habitat as possible. Visitors to this horse sanctuary won’t find a series of stables or barns, as the horses are encouraged to maintain their independence and stamina from roaming the land. The horses are checked daily to maintain their health and happiness. The full mission of the Oklahoma Heritage Horse Sanctuary is “To promote the preservation of the Colonial Spanish Horse and other heritage animals. The Oklahoma Heritage Horse Sanctuary recognizes the need to protect, perpetuate such breeds, educate the community, and increase public awareness.”
