El Rio Verde
El Rio Verde
El Rio Verde is recognizable on the outside by a large graffiti-style mural painted on the side of the small building. On the inside, patrons recognize the authentic Mexican cuisine. Many in Tulsa believe El Rio Verde is the best Mexican food in town. Located in a remote part of the city, El Rio Verde is difficult to find but patrons will tell you it's worth the hunt.
The wet burrito is the most famous El Rio Verde entree - a giant flour tortilla stuffed with a marinated meat of your choice and doused in the restaurant's famous enchilada sauce before it gets a generous handful of queso blanco. The meal is large, as are many others on the menu. Feast on other Mexican classics like nachos, enchiladas or menudo and you won't leave hungry.
El Rio Verde is known for turning up the heat. Enjoy one of their spiciest entrees, the torta ahogada, which is a spicy sandwich smothered in hot chile de arbol sauce. Your mouth may be on fire but El Rio Verde has a cure. Grab a soda or beer imported from Mexico from the large cooler in the restaurant to wash it all down.
Be sure to save room for dessert at El Rio Verde, where they make cocadas, a mouthwatering Mexican coconut macaroon. Breakfast is served here, too. Start your day off with a Mexican favorite like huevos rancheros or enjoy classic steak and eggs. Whatever you choose, most meals will be served with delicious rice and beans by a friendly member of El Rio Verde's waitstaff.
