Talbot Research Library & Museum
Talbot Research Library & Museum
History buffs and cultural aficionados will delight in this free museum and research library building in Colcord. The non-profit Walkingstick Research Library consists of resource books, microfilm and computer access for the public. Specializing in the history and genealogy research of northeast Oklahoma, northwest Arkansas and the Cherokee Nation, this valuable resource houses a treasure trove of information. A bookstore and gift shop are also located on-site, and the Talbot Library online store offers gently used books on history, Native Americans and more.
A recent addition to the property is a 1920s era one-room school building. As you enter the Springtown School House building at the Talbot Library & Museum, you will quickly see a beautiful display of late-19th-century and early-20th-century quilts. These types of quilts leave a legacy and are a great piece of American history. Talbot's Historic School Restoration was an official project of the Oklahoma Centennial Commemoration and was funded in part by the Oklahoma Legislature. Other buildings on the property include a blacksmith shop, a post office building, a general store building and the Adair Building that holds large farm machinery.
