It was Sept. 16, 1893 when people flocked to Enid to stake their claim. Join the city of Enid to celebrate this historical event at the annual Cherokee Strip Celebration. On Saturday, bring a lawn chair or blanket to watch the streets fill up with fire trucks, floats, cars, marching bands and the traditional Longhorn steers for the parade. After the parade, take a stroll around the downtown square, which has been transformed into an arts and crafts central. Enjoy a delicious lunch from one of the food vendors, and if you hear gunshots don't worry--it's just the Marlow gunfighters reenacting an old western scene. Drawing people from all over the surrounding area and beyond, the Cherokee Strip Celebration is a major event that will have you and your family jumping from one exciting activity to the next.
