Eagle Roost Nature Trail, located within Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge, offers a glimpse into some of Oklahoma's most unique scenery.  Open to hiking only, this trail consists of a 1.25-mile loop around the marshy areas to the north of the Great Salt Plains Reservoir.  Eagle Roost Nature Trail is flat for the most part, and is considered a beginner-level trail.  Pick up a brochure at the refuge office and follow the information that coordinates with markers along the trail.

Starting the Eagle Roost Nature Trail, you head west toward Eagle Roost Pond.  You'll follow the trail as it curves back around to the north, along the edge of the water.  Wildlife can be observed both in and around the pond, from turtles to a variety of birds.  As you go along the trail, it will start to curve back to the east, through a wooded area area surrounded by marshy areas and water.  This is the area of Sand Creek Bay, one of the best places along the trail for bird-watching.  Follow the trail south as you wind your way through the trees and back to the trailhead.
