Kay County, located in north-central Oklahoma, was formed at statehood in 1907. Early travel routes included the West Shawnee Trail and the Arkansas City-Reno Road. The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway and the Kansas, Oklahoma and Gulf Railway were the first railroads in the county. The Top of Oklahoma Historical Society Museum in Blackwell holds artifacts and displays from the area.
