Located in south-central Oklahoma, Marshall County was named in honor of George Henshaw, a member of the 1906 Constitutional Convention, whose mother's maiden name was Marshall. The Great Spanish Road and the Texas Road were both early transportation routes in Marshall County. Railroads came into the area at the turn of the 20th century. In 1944, workers completed the Denison Dam, creating Lake Texoma from the Red and Washita rivers. Lake Texoma State Park near Kingston offers camping and many activities both in the park and on the lake. The Museum of Southern Oklahoma, located in Madill, features historical artifacts and documents from the area.
